Storing Wild Mushrooms

Whenever you go to pick wild mushrooms from out in fields you will want to make sure that you bring the right stuff with you to do the job. You need to be sure that you use the proper material to store the mushrooms while you are picking and while you are transporting them to your house. There are various things you could use to store the wild mushrooms in and the simplest would probably be containers. You could use a different container for every species that you are collecting. If you already know the type of mushrooms that are around you and you want to just pick them then you don’t need nearly as many containers as you would if there are many unidentified mushrooms around you.

Basket

You could also carry the mushrooms in a basket as long as you are wrapping the mushrooms separately. Just package the mushrooms in wax paper and place them in a basket (which has a flat bottom) and voila! However, make sure that you don’t use plastic to wrap the mushrooms because it can start to decay them pretty quickly. If you don’t store them in a basket and just use containers then make sure that the mushrooms can breathe in the containers also.

Be sure that you are careful when you are storing and transporting the wild mushrooms. Also make sure that you don’t crush them at all because you don’t want to ruin them. Be cautious while holding onto them so they are in the same condition they were when you originally discovered them so identifying the type of mushroom it is will not be as difficult.
